Detained by the festivities, the wind picks up and I begin to hit afternoon thunderstorms. I am worn out when I reach Williston in western North Dakota, having riden over 500 miles in wind and storm. Williston is a boomtown, the boom began with the discovery of oil in 2006, peaked in 2012, and is now in decline. With an overabundance of hotels, a room is easy to find.
