Heart Mountain, a 2476 m (8123 ft) klippe near Cody, Wyoming, rises from the floor of the Bighorn Basin. The mountain is composed of Paleozoic rocks about 500 to 350 million years old, that rest on rocks that are only about 55 million years old. The contact is the Heart Mountain Fault that we saw exposed in the Absaroka Range, on which a mass of rock over 3400 km2 (1300 mi2) slid at least 40 km (25 mi).
