The Alabama-Tennessee state line at 35°. In 1735 the separation of North and South Carolina was fixed at 35°, the release of land claims west of the Appalachian Mountains by North Carolina led to the establishment of Tennessee with the same border. John Coffee, a general under Andrew Jackson, supervised the survey of the line from 1817 to 1822.
