Natches Under-the-Hill, a notorious port, was home to bordellos, groggeries, and gambling dens. The Kaintucks, unloading their flatboats here in the 1800s, were tempted, swindled or robbed of their earnings. In 1810 an estimated 10,000 Kaintucks hauled out here, before beginning the 450 mile walk north on the Trace to start another river journey. A modest riverboat casino is available for modern visitors.
