I continue on to Williams, where Route 66 rejoins I-40. The road now rises onto the Colorado Plateau, an uplift roughly centered over the Four Corners of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado. As I ascend, approaching Flagstaff, the weather cools, and I am soaked in a thunderstorm before arriving. Semis add insult, spraying me with muddy water as they pass.
